I had no clue that the pain itself would lessen as long as I didn’t drink and I worked the steps, attended meetings, and applied the principles in all my affairs. Relapse happens far before we pick up that drink—it begins when we stop participating emotionally, mentally, and spiritually in our recovery program. I explore how maintaining sobriety means taking daily action, not just avoiding alcohol. I discuss how "one day at atime" applies my to stroke recovery as well.
