The New Jersey Devils dropped their first preseason matchup to the New York Islanders by a score of 4-2. They had a good showing in the first period, but the last two belonged to the Islanders. Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt were a good duo. Dougie Hamilton and Jacob Markstrom were also impressive. Sheldon Keefe explained his mindset heading into preseason pregame.

The New Jersey Devils and Dawson Mercer finally agreed on a new contract. Merc Dawg signed a three-year, $12 million extension. The 2024-25 regular season is fast approaching. The New Jersey Devils began their training camp and it seems like the team is off to a positive start. A lot of the players are pumped up for the new year. Sheldon Keefe and Tom Fitzgerald had a joint press conference to share their optimism and expectations.
