Jesús Sánchez hit two doubles and drove in three runs, and Jake Burger added a huge two-run home run late, as the Miami Marlins beat Shohei Ohtani and the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers 11-9 on Tuesday night in the series opener in Miami.
Sánchez went 5 for 5, setting a Marlins franchise record. Otto López also homered for the Marlins.
Ohtani struck out three times, but he did hit his 48th home run as he continues his quest to become the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a season. He did not steal a base for the fifth straight game and remains at 48.
Burger's home run was a two-run shot in the eighth that made it 11-7 and gave the Marlins a big (and needed) cushion, because Max Muncy would bring the Dodgers within two on a two-run double off Jesús Tinoco in the ninth.
Connor Norby went 2 for 3 with a single, double and two walks, becoming the first Marlin with four runs scored in a single game this season.
Kyle Stowers added an RBI triple in the fourth and a run-scoring double in the sixth for the Marlins, who had 15 hits in the game.
Reliever Anthony Veneziano picked up his first major league win after striking out two and allowing one hit over 1 1/3 inning.
The Marlins scored four runs in the first two innings off starter Bobby Miller, who was lifted after allowing seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
The Dodgers responded with a four-run third jumpstarted by Ohtani's two-run shot against starter Darren McCaughan that he crushed 402 feet to right.
McCaughan pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on six hits and striking out four. Miguel Rojas also homered off McCaughan.
Marlins RHP Sandy Alcantara threw his first live batting practice since having Tommy John surgery in October. LHP Braxton Garrett allowed three hits in five innings and 80 pitches in a start for Triple-A Jacksonville.
The Dodgers (89-62) are 5-5 in their last ten games. They are up by 3.5 games in the division over the San Diego Padres, and two games behind the Phillies for the best record in the NL with eleven games left.

The two teams play the second of this three-game series tomorrow night in Miami, with first pitch set for 6:40pm ET. Lefty Ryan Weathers (3-5, 3.55 ERA) makes his return from the injured list to start for Miami. Weathers has been on the IL since the first week of June with a strained tendon in his finger.
The Dodgers are going with righty Landon Kanck, (2-4, 3.70) as they try to piece together their playoff rotation while fighting for the NL West crown and home field advantage in the playoffs..
