À propos de cette écoute
This audiobook is about developing mastery. Of course, anyone who becomes involved in a skill early and life and/or practices for thousands of hours will more than likely develop a high level of competence. Indeed, this is true of golfers like Tiger Woods and my Tai Chi master, both of whom started in their respective field way before reaching puberty.
However, is it possible for the executive who plays golf once or twice a week to vastly improve his or her handicap? Can a person who started writing late in life become an excellent author? Although I respect the fact that starting at an early age does give a person a jump start, achieving mastery - or at least a substantially enhanced level of performance - can happen at any age.
As a clinical hypnotherapist and NLP trainer, obviously my emphasis will be on the use of suggestion and imagination as tools to accelerate the achievement of mastery. I take this stance due to a brain-based definition. The late Canadian psychologist Donald Hebb is known for promoting the “use it or lose it” concept. What he taught us is that the neural pathways in your brain that are associated with a thought, idea, or behavior will develop more numerous and thicker networks with practice and repetition.
Recently neuroscientists have added that this will cause neural stem cells to make more neurons available. This means that the more you focus on a skill, the thicker and more developed the neural substrate related to the skill will become. (Just so you know, the term neural substrate is the proper term for parts of the brain.)
Therefore, when the four lads from Liverpool played over 10,000 hours in a brothel in Hamburg, Germany, or another young man sneaked into the computer lab at the University of Washington to spend an equal amount of time becoming a programmer, the required substrates of their brains became extremely developed.
While my listeners are probably not members of the Beatles or the founder of Microsoft and one of the richest men in the world, I still maintain that even through old age it is possible to enhance various brain densities related to the endeavor that you wish to improve. All you need are the right techniques.
In summary, at this point I want to say that mastery is correlated to the development of the appropriate networks and substrates of your brain. In this audiobook, I will present ways that you can accelerate the process. Think of this as body building for the brain.
