“Sometimes people love you their best but it's still not enough”

This series becomes, book after book, my favourite contemporary romance series to this day! This time, we follow Rooney and Axel. They know each other as Rooney hangs with the family pretty often since Willa met Ryder. If Rooney is –in appearance– a shiny social butterfly, Axel is more the hermite kind of guy. Because of Rooney’s chronic disease, plumbing disasters and financial trouble, they have to deal with forced proximity and a marriage of convenience, which will make them realize the feelings they share for each other. Honestly, that trope isn’t my fav’ but it worked flawlessly here.
As usual, the characters are extraordinary. I know, I said I identified with Frankie, but I feel even closer to Axel, which made him truly inspiring. Almost everything in him “talked to me” but the part with his art and feelings will remain the closest to my heart. Once again, C.L. gives us balanced characters, very humans, with reliable conflicts, especially their fear to engage into a relationship, for opposite reasons.
Is love enough? Can you be yourself and be loved for that, entirely? They’re different, yet they see each other, and create a safe space to grow (yes, I adored that “safe” was repeated so often during the story).
Also, there is a dog, and a cat (and yes, that would have been enough to sell me… I’m not a very complicated person).
