Christmas was fast approaching, and Santa, as is usual at this time of year, had a full day planned. Someone was coming to visit him. It was someone important; a writer who wanted to write about his reindeer. It didn't quite end up that way though, and in fact, you likely know the poem he ended up writing. It’s called ’Twas the Night Before Christmas. You know it. You do. It’s the one which mentions all the reindeer except for Rudolph. Maybe you’ve wondered why Rudolph wasn’t in the poem. Well, I know why, and if you listen to this story, you will too.
Poor Rudolph! He was upset at being left out, and it’s still a sore point for him. Some people think maybe the poem was written before Rudolph joined the others, but the truth is, it wasn’t.
You see, something happened that evening which led to the poem we all know and love, but which, to this day, Rudolph finds difficult to hear....
