À propos de cette écoute
From life in a suburban Western Pennsylvania steel town in the middle of the post-World War II baby boom, to contemplation in retirement, Though Oftentimes Better than Master of One is a collection of brief memoirs, recollections, and prose that is meant to be listened to in small portions, much like slowly sipping a cup of warm tea during a cold winter’s evening while relaxing in a reclining chair. You can easily stop listening at the end of any story, then pick it up again days, or even weeks later to resume listening without the fear of forgetting the previous plot line or characters. These brief narratives describe events from the author’s youth, college years, career, and current day life in retirement. The subjects of the stories range from flipping baseball cards, the arrival of the ice cream man on the street, observations of the natural world, and contemplating what is true and meaningful in this life. Though Oftentimes Better than Master of One is the third installment of a series, preceeded by Jack of All Trades and And Master of None, and followed by I Wonder When You Knew. All are thoroughly enjoyable, relaxing and insightful listen from beginning to end.
