Description
Through the ages, mankind has pursued questions of faith in something beyond the world of ordinary experience. Is there a God? How can we explain the presence of evil? Do humans, or human souls, live on after death? Is there a hell? The following lectures examine these eternal questions and present the most compelling arguments for and against God's existence, the seeming conflicts between religion and science, and the different truth-claims of the world's most popular religions. By delving into the major characteristics of world religions, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, mankind's association with the many different varieties of religious practice is brought to light. Above all, Faith and Reason: The Philosophy of Religion lays the groundwork for a rational approach to pursuing questions of faith - and at the same time provides a better understanding of religion's ongoing importance in the realm of human experience.

Pro-christian bias
I am an agnostic and I wanted to challenge myself with this course. I had enjoyed Peter Kreeft's course on Ethics and was looking forward these. However, there is clearly a pro-Christian bias in these lectures. Not just in favor of Christianism vs. Atheism, but also in favor of Christianism vs. other religions. I found this unpleasant. Sometimes, the arguments brought up by the professor are based on metaphors or analogies, and hence quite weak, but he does not seem to acknowledge that (at least when it is in favor of his views). I especially have in mind the arguments in favor of hell or the existence of angels. Furthermore, the classes often take the form of a list of arguments and their respective counter-arguments, which is a bit dull and boring.
The arguments which persuaded me the most were those in favor of the immateriality of the soul. Very interesting!
In the end, despite some weaknesses, I am on the whole satisfied by this course and might take other courses of this teacher.
