À propos de cette écoute

Emma, Aiden and Gina stand on the brink of a new life. After the trauma of Aiden’s abduction and return, they are slowly healing and returning to a fragile normality. Emma is desperate to protect her children, but the world is fascinated by Aiden, the silent child who is finally learning to speak for himself.

Against her better judgment, Emma allows her son to attend a talk show. Her worse nightmare comes true when her daughter, Gina, is snatched from the studio and a chilling game begins.

Emma is convinced the answers lie in the darkest corners of the family’s past, and that Aiden must be able to work out the puzzle, if only he dare reach into the horrors of his memory.

But as the mystery deepens and Gina is still missing, the family must face a terrible question: is history repeating itself, or is there a new enemy to contend with?

Layered with emotion, and told from Aiden and Emma’s perspectives, the sequel to Silent Child is a dark and thrilling listen.

Don’t think I can finish this

I’ve been forcing myself to listen to this thinking this is the same author who wrote One for sorrow and the sequels, books which I loved... however...

The main character is as stupid as they get and lacks empathy despite the fact that the book portrays her as a good, although not perfect, person. She’s got good intentions but is blind to how others are/may be feeling, making her act permanently bitchy, patronizing, entitled, superior.

The main character in One for sorrow was meant to fulfill a similar role - A mother dealing with a deranged person who targets her family, a good person with flaws and secrets... they’re similar and yet, one of them made me feel attached while the other - I cringe every time she opens her mouth.

It’s not her bad decisions that made me judge her as incompetent, it’s how she draws conclusions never considering multiple possibilities or coming up with creative solutions, never analyzing or gathering more data. Every time she faces a new problem she’s jumped to a conclusion in record time.

I am someone who comes from a bad family and her entitled parent act « I am a mother so you wouldn’t understand » just makes me uninterested in anything else she has to say, simply being a mother doesn’t make anyone a more worthwhile person.

People can understand others who are different than themselves.
