He was restless.
They had gone to bed hours ago, but he was finding sleep elusive.
He had known things about Sarah before he began shadowing her.
The kind of car she drove, where she lived, even her favorite foods.
What he hadn't known was that from the first touch, desire for her would take root in his soul.
At 36, he was no stranger to passion. The need to envelop oneself in the warmth of another, to take while giving and to lead while following.
He was wise enough to know that what he felt for Sarah was not love. Unlike many who quickly jump into love and just as rapidly fall out of it, he was a man who knew that love could only be born of something else.
Perhaps that was why what he felt for Sarah bothered him. It felt like that something else. That something else, and Sarah's proximity to him, was keeping him awake.
Tonight, as with the past three, his feelings were tearing him apart, and it was taking every bit of his will, strong though it was, to keep away from Sarah.
