À propos de cette écoute
#1 New York Times bestseller Lisa Gardner returns with an unpredictable thriller that puts fan favorites D. D. Warren and Flora Dane on a shocking new case that begins with a vicious murder and gets darker from there.
A man is dead, shot three times in his home office. But his computer has been shot twelve times, and when the cops arrive, his pregnant wife is holding the gun.
D. D. Warren arrives on the scene and recognizes the woman - Evie Carter - from a case many years back. Evie's father was killed in a shooting that was ruled an accident. But for D.D., two coincidental murders is too many.
Flora Dane sees the murder of Conrad Carter on the TV news and immediately knows his face. She remembers a night when she was still a victim - a hostage - and her captor knew this man. Overcome with guilt that she never tracked him down, Flora is now determined to learn the truth of Conrad's murder.
But D.D. and Flora are about to discover that in this case the truth is a devilishly elusive thing. As layer by layer they peel away the half-truths and outright lies, they wonder: How many secrets can one family have?

Commentaires
“Gardner knows how to weave a deeply moving and psychological thriller that pulls no punches in its authenticity. She is one of the masters when it comes to crime fiction. Fans of her novels will consider this one of her best, and newcomers will be in awe of the compelling story and unpredictability of the proceedings.” (Associated Press)
“This is easily Gardner’s most ambitious, complex tale ever, a shattering emotional journey that’s utterly relentless in pacing and suspense. Tell everyone that Never Tell is an early candidate for the best thriller of 2019.” (Providence Journal)
“Nailbiting.... Gardner’s commendable storytelling will keep fans eagerly waiting for the next outing for D.D. and Flora.” (Publishers Weekly)

Best book in this series
After having listened to most of the books in the DD Warren series I have to say I liked this best! Good storyline and great narration

In my opinion: disappointing.
Good written but in my opinion a bit boring because of the repetitive lengths.
After a good start, I have been feeling like very little development in the story happened in each chapter and often got the impression I already had read this one chapter once before: again and again almost repetitive descriptions in different declination. I could not enjoy it because it made me sort of “impatient” and I barely could listen to it till the end.
A good point, the writing around sensitive themes like child abuses, dark web etc. remains still respectful for each one sensibility and there is not any voyeurism in it.
At the same time, in my opinion, the psychological aspects are not enough developed, there are sometimes kind of “clichés” in the characters and the story line was not consistent enough, so said between not enough reality and too much twists, which were even not that surprising. I don't know if the matter is the performance itself or the text, or even both, why it is boring. Is it the lack of modulation? The temper starts and ends the same way, sometimes trying to make a tension but most of the time unsuccessful and even if the house is burning, not breathtaking. Why?
I am not a native English speaker, though, but found the reader’s pronunciation very good to understand, only too fast, like she was in a hurry finishing the reading of the book?
To be honest, there was not the expected suspense in it for me but long texts producing pages which seemed to me not worth the time spent listening to it.
Globally, it is quite entertaining, may be you are going to like it. Am sorry, I could not enjoy it. I know it is a lot of work to write a book and easier to criticize than to do.
