À propos de cette écoute
How do you choose between your faith and your future?
Sixteen-year-old Stevie Albie is a religious person, but nothing prepares her for meeting Mary. Like the Mary, mother of Jesus. Just as Stevie becomes convinced she has a special connection with God, doctors discover a brain tumor in her frontal lobe they claim is causing the hallucinations.
Her parents insist on removing the tumor as quickly as possible, but Stevie isn't so sure. Feeling special for the first time in her life, she runs away to a religious cult that's convinced her visions are their salvation and vow to protect her. But as time goes on, she suspects they have their own agenda. Torn on who to trust, Stevie wonders if she'll have to choose: her visions or her future?

"A moving, worldly-wise tale of a teen on a spiritual roller-coaster ride." (Kirkus Reviews)
"Kristin Durfee does a perfect and brilliant job of making a weird and different concept feel normal. Before reading Mass, I never imagined anything like spiritual visions appearing with a brain tumor, but it made a lot of sense when I read about it, especially because the characters are completely natural and lifelike. Stevie's thoughts are revealed clearly through a first-person viewpoint as she goes through her challenges. Her perceptive, humorous, and lively voice is one many young adults and even older readers will relate to. In fact, the strong disagreement she has with her parents reminded me of a similar experience I had growing up. The great appeal of the story is maintained throughout as it meanders calmly through different themes: legal fights, family discord, religion, supernaturalism, empathy, cancer and suffering, divorce and single parenting, relationship issues, and religion. Mass is a complete and well-written story that would win fans of other genres over. Definitely one of the best young adult books I've read!" (Reader's Favorite five-star review)
"Mass by Kristin Durfee is a compelling page turner of a read from cover to cover. Original and laced with unexpected plot twists and turns, Mass is especially and unreservedly recommended for highschool and community library YA Fiction collections." (Midwest Book Review)
