Good if you want to start speaking from day1. ;-)
This method changed my mind about my own ways of learning a language (basically go to class the way I did with english). You won't need to memorise anything, just follow the recording and you'll be fine.
For a recording of 5 hours, I need a week to listen to it here and there so I'd recommend not to listen to it in one go, that would be too much info unless you're on vacation and you have nothing else to do.
It feels good to be able to say what you want, where you're going without spending months before being able to utter such sentences, it also gives you a good grammatical basis, you'll find yourself using these structures for new verbs (in case you use another methods in combination, a classic language learning book) within minutes! It's also nice to recognize some words when watching a chinese tvshow , it's a proof that you don't need to put too much effort into learning, you just need efficient tools, leave the efforts to other parts of the language like writing (later) and READING as nothing is better than reading to build vocabulary but you must be armed with the grammatical basics and a decent amount of vocab by getting a variety of resources (language books, this method and some flashcard app like memrise).
I'll start the second part next week and I'm already eager to go to the next level (intermediate) , by combining it with HSK prep books (1,2 and 3). It's just thrilling to know that in three months, I'll be able to express myself decently , in simple phrases and make myself understood by other mandarin speakers. This is where I'm planning to take online tutoring in order to strengthen my speaking abilities, and not waste too much effort, money (being able to say so many things with only 8 euros/ 10 dollars and I'd have spent 5 times more for only the equivalent of part 1 in private tutoring,I can't afford it that's why I need to be careful and invest money wisely, leave tutoring for later, to get feedbacks on specific matters) and a lot of frustration on starting to speak from scratch.
I hope my lengthy comment will give an insight to all those who are like me, who were strictly learning languages in a classroom environment or those who get lost amid a pile of language learning books, keep them all aside (at least for a couple of weeks) and start with THIS, you won't regret it. Good luck in your journey!
