À propos de cette écoute
Why don’t people want to stay free? Well, I believe that most people do, and it is a republic if we can keep it. But I did not know this as a child, or even as a grown man, until the last few years.
Each chapter of this book is a revealing report on politics in the United States of America, through the study of someone who was never literate in the world of politics. So, imagine taking someone from college graduation, where the university required you pass government class in order to get your degree and asking them if they know anything about the politics that go with the training they got about the government? I Used to Be a Democrat shows that knowledge is power.
When I graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1987, I knew all about the US government and its structure. But it took me the last four years of extreme study to learn something more about the US government. I politics in America. I was completely shocked at the information that I learned about the men and women who run the government of the United States, and that knowledge even bled over into state and local governments across the country.
An internal revelation happened in one man who hated even the mention of politics. I was to go around in daily life knowing all about the government from what I learned in college, and I could be a proud business man or worker of a company, knowing that I could follow any conversation about any part of our government. But when names got mentioned and daily news was being discussed, I just said, "I don't want to hear about all that". I was a big democrat supporter and believed that Clinton was great, I believed that it takes a special man to make it to the office of the presidency, so I had great respect for any president.
Yet, I could not talk politics with anyone because I didn't know what I was saying. I always believed whatever was being said in the news because "that is on the TV, so it has to be the truth", I would think. I started studying as if I took a new college course - the study of all things politics and the people who are involved - and man, do I have a report for you in this book!
We have other Americans that live and procreate here that don’t like the America they live in. No, they want to disregard the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and turn America into some other form of country. Jesus! We already went through that during the Civil War - granted, they were fighting over a different cause - but it was a country fighting among itself. There are people that want to change the republic into something other than what it is, and I never knew we had people like that in this country. I thought most people wanted to be free.
Please know that this book is not a biased attempt to sway readers to one side of politics or the other, nor does it deliberately bash or name names to crush politicians whom I discovered things about. It is more a report of our government as it exists in these times and exactly how the politics work in their minds. My studies began in the later part of 2016 and continue to this day.
I simply want you to get to know me and what in the world happened to me in the United States as I became aware of politics. I must add in this description, that I was not indoctrinated in college. I was naive, or brain dead, when it comes to politics. That has changed now, and you can read about it in this book!
