À propos de cette écoute
Buckle up for an emotional journey of hijinks, heartache, and a hot slow-burn in this marriage-in-crisis romance about going the distance to make love last.
Aiden
I've spent 12 years loving Freya Bergman, and 12 lifetimes won't be enough to give her everything she deserves. All I want is to make her happy. But the one thing that will make her happiest is the one thing I'm not sure I can give her: a baby. With the pressure of providing and planning for a family, my anxiety's at an all-time high, and I find myself pulling away, terrified to tell my wife how I'm struggling. But when Freya kicks me out, I realize that pulling back has turned into pushing too far. Now it's the fight of a lifetime to save our marriage.
Freya
I love my cautious, hard-working husband. Until one day I realize the man I married is nowhere to be found. Now Aiden is quiet and withdrawn, and as the months wear on, the pain of our growing distance becomes too much. As if weathering marriage counseling wasn't enough, we're thrown together for an island getaway to celebrate my parents' many years of perfect marriage while ours is on the brink of collapse. Despite my meddling siblings and a week in each other's constant company, this trip somehow gets us working through the trouble in paradise. I just can't help worrying, when we leave paradise and return to the real world, will trouble find us again?

original trope
“At some point, every love is a tragedy. It just doesn’t have to stay that way. We choose our endings.”
Once again, there will be a different me before and after this book. The Bergman Brothers series does that to me. Romances are incredible, but also deep, and that’s what I would like to read (or listen to, for these ones) more often.
In Ever After Always, we follow Frieda –the elder sister– and her husband Aiden, whose almost-ten-years-old marriage is in a storm. It might be the first time I read a romance about an existing couple. Yet, established relationships are, in my point of view, as –if not more– interesting as new ones (that’s probably why I love friends to lovers so much). What happens after the story? Even after the epilogue? That’s what this book (brilliantly) explores. I loved that the focus was a lot on Aiden, on his anxiety (one of my dragons), and his fear of failure, because of how our patriarchal society can be as much detrimental on some men (because of pressure and expectations) than it is (undeniably) on women.
This book is so much about love (not passion), about how we have to choose to love every day, how to do it, how it needs to make efforts. That was an inspiring lesson, a welcome reminder.
(And the references to romance novels were an absolute delight, just saying.)
