À propos de cette écoute

Hi, fellow music lover! Congratulations on starting your music-making journey.

This lesson is broken into several chapters. The first part focuses on interval identification exercises, starting with grouped intervals and ending with all intervals mixed up. The second part of the book focuses on extremely valuable exercises with the help of fifths. The third part is a simple yet powerful exercise that allows you to manifest the sound of each interval even more.

The fourth part focuses on chord identification exercises, starting with grouped chords and ending with all chords mixed up. The fifth part of the book focuses on extremely valuable exercises with the help of a drone. The last part brings you very close to a real-life situation. Short chord progressions played by either a full band or a solo piano put your ears to the final test.

Best of all, this lesson doesn’t limit itself to dry theory: after a brief introduction to every concept, we completely focus on listening exercises to sharpen your ear.

Oh, and before I forget, the most important tip of all: have fun!

    Yes, but...

The initial idea is a good one: an audiobook to work on ear training, a perfect fit.

But it soon becomes clear that the execution is not up to scratch... After a few tips in a monotone voice, you soon realize that the exercises are few and far between, and often poorly thought out.

So intervals are played with a pattern that won't help in "real life", and chords are grouped arbitrarily rather than by sound similarities. Thus, mMaj7 is grouped with m6 and m7. Whereas it would have been wiser to make a group mMaj7, diminished, augmented...

Finally, some of the exercises are a joke: you are asked to sing intervals, without any correction, and you just have a 20-minute track with a single note held.

In short, you'll manage to find 2 or 3 exercises that will help you progress, but it could have been much better...
