À propos de cette écoute
Today, those on the modern Western diet have over a 40 percent incidence of diabetes, prediabetes, and obesity. Not only in the United States, but everywhere this diet has been adopted. The goal for you is to prevent type 2 diabetes by getting you on the right diet. This is not an easy task and this audiobook is a compilation of five smaller books.
For you to understand diet, I have to teach you about diabetes, the prototypical dietary disease. I will start by explaining what it is. To understand that, we will go over what is food and what happens when you eat and don't eat. Then we will discuss the fundamental cause of obesity and diabetes by going over insulin resistance. You will see that it will be necessary to do something about excess fat, and the best practical diet for most is going to be the ketogenic diet. I will go into some detail on this subject.
You will then learn that your body is designed to undergo a little fasting; that is, no caloric intake for a period of time. Everyone will not eat 12 hours between the last meal of the day and the first of the next day, the pattern that has existed for most of the last 5,000 years until the modern Western diet. This is not a fast, but rather the normal way to eat. Most of you will be convinced to occasionally not eat for 24 to 36 hours. I know you think that is impossible, but at the end of this audiobook you will be convinced to try it.
Finally, I will go over the maintenance diet, the diet designed to prevent type 2 diabetes, the diet for the entire family, the diet for the next 30 years. This really will not work unless the food engineer is involved. This is the person who buys the food, prepares it, chooses it, and makes sure everyone gets enough. I will not give you recipes, but will give you guidelines.
At the end, we will discuss bread in the modern diet. Bread is the first processed food and has been used since the beginning to avoid starvation. You used to be able to live on bread alone. This is no longer true and modern bread is a main contributor to our 40 percent incidence of diabetes, prediabetes, and obesity. I will tell you why and what to do about it.
