À propos de ce contenu audio

At 17 Sophie is a mess. Her best friend is dead and her boyfriend has gone. She's dropped out of school, sleeps through the day, eats all night and refuses to see anyone. Her family has had enough. They're dumping her on an aunt she doesn't know in a country town where she'll be a complete stranger.

But Sophie is about to embark on the strangest journey of her life. It will take her into her family's past, back to the origins of the bitter rift between her mother and her Aunt Fran, to her Uncle Jimmy and the Vietnam War, and finally to the girl in the painting and the story haunting all their lives.

Avis de l'équipe

Sophie, 17, is so depressed that she can't get out of bed. When her family can't take it anymore, they ship her off to live with her aunt, a total stranger. This strange adventure, though, will turn out to be just what Sophie needs. Lucy Taylor performs Chain of Hearts with a hypnotically sweet voice. Her tone is as soothing as a country stream and full of longing. Her leisurely pacing makes the many turns of events easy to follow. Teen listeners will enjoy being swept away into Sophie's world.

Commentaires

"This is a real page turner." (Magpies Magazine)
"Lucy Taylor's enthusiastic performance will hook listeners as they sort out complex characters from three generations. Center stage is Sophie, a lost 17-year-old who suffers from hatred for her mother, a love of overeating, and an inability to recover from the death of a friend, killed in an accident while Sophie was driving. Through her relationship with her artistic Aunt Fran, Sophie's growing understanding of her family's past illuminates her future. As Lucy Taylor leads us through various viewpoints and family intricacies, our caring for the characters deepens and her well-acted dramatization helps us see their emotional connections, as well as the links forged in the aftermath of the Vietnam War."
