À propos de cette écoute
This is a story from the Normandy Stories collection.
Maupassant is hailed as one of the greatest masters of the short story. This collection focuses upon the land he knew and loved so well - Normandy. Its people and its countryside are portrayed here in vivid color and with great warmth. Amusing, saucy, and sometimes even farcical they may be, but they are also capable of great pathos, often branching off to end tragically. It is this skilful and affecting blend of tragedy and comedy, of tears and laughter, which make Maupassant's Normandy Stories the enduring favorites they are today.

Avis de l'équipe
This ghost story from Guy de Maupassant brings out an exceptional performance from narrator Oliver Montgomery, whose hushed voice full of lingering fear and confusion sets an eerie tone from the beginning. The unnamed narrator of the story runs into an old friend who asks him for a strange favor: to enter a bedroom in his country house and retrieve some papers. The old friend, a widower, has been unable to go inside since the death of his wife, and Montgomery's convincing depiction of the narrator's growing horror as he discovers why will leave listeners shivering.
