Jeunesse
I write children's books as Rebecca Nolen and adult books as R.L. Nolen. I love to read good books. Two things influenced why I wrote The Dry. I was fascinated with the daily wars that take place in my yard between insects. And when I visited coal mine country my heart was broken when I saw photos of the little children who worked in the mines in the past and realized that there are still children being worked to near death in other parts of the world. I wrote Deadly Thyme because it is the type of book I love to read. If you love Ruth Rendell or Deborah Crombie you will love Deadly Thyme. I write, illustrate, and care for loved ones in Houston, TX. I taught children, cared for an assortment of pets, and killed poisonous snakes in the wilds of Sugar Land for twenty-two years before moving into the big city seeking "hipster" status. As that goal remains sadly out of reach I continue to practice the fine art of balance at the local YMCA, and walk the dog. At the moment I am in the room at the top of the stairs dreaming of England and cream-filled donuts.
