AbdelKarim AlKhattabi Description

Abdel Karim AlKhattabi, also spelled Abdelkarim el-Khattabi, was a prominent Moroccan nationalist and leader of the Moroccan independence movement during the mid 20th century. He was born on February 6, 1882, in the village of Ajdir, located in the Rif region of Morocco.

AlKhattabi played a crucial role in organizing and leading the armed resistance against French and Spanish colonial rule in Morocco. He became a symbol of resistance and a champion of Moroccan independence. AlKhattabi led the Rif Republic, an independent state established in the Rif region from 1921 to 1926.

He was known for his strategic military tactics and the ability to mobilize local tribes in the resistance against the colonial powers. AlKhattabi's leadership inspired many Moroccans in their fight for freedom and self-determination.

After the Rif Republic fell in 1926, AlKhattabi continued his struggle for Moroccan independence through political means. He co-founded the Istiqlal Party (Independence Party) in 1943, which became the largest nationalist party in Morocco.
