    • CLUBLAND STORIES December: Podcast and Blakey finally disagree on a Rules situation. We have nearly ten outstanding ClubLand stories, including two audio questions - THE GRQ PODCAST EP130
      Dec 20 2024

ClubLand Stories December, and what an absolute doozy to finish out the year 2024. Podcast and Blakey finally disagree on a Rules situation, so let us know who you think is right. We have nearly ten outstanding ClubLand stories/Rules questions, including two audio questions, one of which is the GRQOTW for episode 130 and it is a head-scratcher.

      GRQOTW129:

Andy the Average Golfer incurs a General Penalty for all of the breaches.

      GRQOTW130

Player hits her ball on a par 3 and it is Known or Virtually Certain to be in a Yellow Penalty Area.

The player decides to correctly drop a ball back-on-the-line for a penalty of one stroke.

The player then sees her original ball and decides to go and play that ball.

She hits her original ball sideways and it rolls back into the same Yellow Penalty Area at a new entry point.

The player goes back on the tee side of the Yellow Penalty Area and drops a ball back-on-the-line. She then hits this ball into the greenside bunker.

Then she hits her bunker shot across the green and back into the penalty area at the same crossing point as the original ball from the teeing area.

She goes to drop a ball under penalty of one stroke back-on-the-line but as her first dropped ball is in the same position she decides to play this instead.

Hits that on the green and takes one putt to finish.

What is her score? • GUEST: John Thorman - volunteer referee extraordinaire and author of 'Let's Get It Right' provides some curly scenarios from his book and talks about the referee craft - THE GRQ PODCAST EP129
      Dec 11 2024

In episode 129, Stuart chats with experienced Referee and rules expert John Thorman who is the author of the Rules Book, "Let's Get it Right".
John talks about his start in the game, what sparked his interest in the Rules of Golf and his Rules journey. John mentions some of his tips about being a good Referee.
Finally, John presents his own GRQOTW.The book 'Let's Get it Right' is available for free at https://issuu.com/dear_john/docs/dear_john_-_book_20162021?fr=sNDFkOTE5ODc3MTg
GRQOTW128: David has nothing to answer for. He has the ability to change his mind if the removal of the tree meant his ball didn't move. When choosing to take an unplayble, the player has the ability to get to their ball, and if in the process the ball is moved, there is no penalty.

      GRQOTW129:
Andy the Average Golfer is playing at Wombat Hills GC after an overnight rain.
His ball lies on wet compacted sand in a bunker on the first hole. Thinking “lift, rake and place” is an option under the circumstances, Andy lifts his ball, rakes the area fluffing the sand, replaces the ball on the original spot, and plays his ball successfully from the bunker. How many penalty strokes, if any, does Andy incur?

    • ON TOUR - Blakey was in Qatar, and Stuart was in Melbourne. Sand aplenty in Doha, and plenty of rain in Melbourne, but just because it’s rough, doesn’t mean it’s abnormal - THE GRQ PODCAST EP128
      Dec 5 2024

Episode 128 of the GolfRules Questions Podcast was all about Podcast and Blakey being on tour.

Podcast had some stories from the Australian Open, held at Kingston Heath, where there was a lot of talk about pace of play, and soft course conditions, whilst Blakey was over in Qatar with the Asian Tour, where the main rulings were what is considered abnormal in the desert. So whether you are eating an ice cream or taking the dog for a walk, enjoy listening to the golfrules questions podcast

ON TOUR - Blakey was in Qatar, and Stuart was in Melbourne. Sand aplenty in Doha, and plenty of rain in Melbourne, but just because it’s rough, doesn’t mean it’s abnormal - THE GRQ PODCAST EP128

GRQOTW 127 A - Jeff may require Stuart to lift Stuart’s ball if Jeff reasonably believes it might interfere with Jeff’s play.

GRQPTW128 - David finds his tee shot in a terrible lie, with a large unattached tree branch right beside his ball. He says that he is going to take an unplayable, but then moves the tree branch and this causes his ball to move. Stuart didn’t like this procedure and wants David to add two penalty strokes to his score, one for causing his ball to move, and one for the unplayable. David is adamant that he was just moving the branch to get to his ball. But Stuart believes that had David moved the unattached tree branch and David’s ball had not moved, he would have played it as it lies. They call you in to decide, what is your decision?
