What do Matt Mercer, David Tennant, Katy Perry, and David Bowie all have in common? They use a Stage Name! The reasons vary, the changes can be small or large, and there's no wrong answer when it comes to using or not using a Stage Name! It can be as simple as people mispronouncing their given name enough that they simply go by the mispronunciation, it can be for privacy reasons, it can even be because their real name is too long to fit on a form! Some Stage names take a more personal turn. It could be to avoid having your name be used as the butt of a childlike joke, or because in a predominantly western entertainment industry, some names are considered too close to other established actors or even too foreign to be marketable.
