Great Overview, learned a lot
Can only recommend it. Seems to be very balanced with the author having a love for the Chinese people and culture while lamenting the flaws of its elites and the failures of leadership.

Excellent insight into the history of China
Detailed, captivating, story of a fascinating country. Helps understand contemporary China and the values and drive of its people, and also why it’s difficult for us to interpret correctly current signals from the country.

Well done
Very calm and captivating narration, comprehensive and easy to follow history of China and its people. I particularly enjoyed the periodic focuses on the lives of interesting individuals (poets, philosophers, historians, local officials), and the emphasis on the role of women through the stories of fascinating female figures.
Thanks to the author for this amazing work.
