À propos de cette écoute
A Siege of Terra Novella
Nathaniel Garro, the loyalist who betrayed his father Mortarion to warn the Emperor of the horrors of Isstvan, is brought face to face with the hideously changed Primarch.
Listen to it because...
It’s the conclusion of a story that began long ago in Flight of the Eisenstein. A loyalist son confronts his traitorous father.
The story:
As the epic battle for Terra rages and the future of mankind hangs in the balance, former Knight Errant Nathaniel Garro fights among the ashes and fire of the embattled Imperial Palace as the shadow of Horus Lupercal's triumph looms. From the brutal betrayal at Isstvan to the desperate flight of the Eisenstein, through his missions as Malcador the Sigillite's Agentia Primus, Garro's path has drawn him inexorably towards a destiny that can only end in bloodshed.
As he struggles to protect Euphrati Keeler, the first Saint of the Imperial Church, from the horrors of this titanic war, Garro must face his greatest enemy – his father, Mortarion, his former master, and the monstrous liege-lord of the traitorous Death Guard – in a final, shattering confrontation.

Get fucked Mortarion
Garro really clapped a daemon primarch Rylanor style.
Excellent although sadly short read, this story is the embodiment of the nobledark genre.
It joins Fury Of Magnus & Sons Of The Selenar in that weird "technically apart of the Siege Of Terra, yet very distant from the actual action" triumvirate of books in the Siege.
The narrator is consistently very good.
95/100

The ending of the book also made me pretty confused about what really happens when someone dies in the 40k universe. Was the halo of light just a deluded hallucination from Garro's broken and dying mind or is that what actually happens when you die? Do only faithful people go to this sort of "paradise" next to Big E, and if so, why so early ? I'd understand if in the 41st millenium that'd be the case, as the Emperor doesn't really have a choice but to accept that he's pretty much a god, but during the Siege ? At his arguably weakest and most anti-religious ? It's odd and asks more questions than it answers.
And while I personally don't mind that Garro has insane plot armour so that he can have an epic duel with his former daddy, I still have to note that it's pretty ridiculous and that he should've died 100 times over before his final confrontation, and even then, he shouldn't have been able to square off with Mortatrion as he did.
