À propos de cette écoute
The apocalypse will be televised!
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible.
In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground.
The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot. A dungeon so enormous, it circles the entire globe.
Only a few dare venture inside. But once you're in, you can't get out. And what's worse, each level has a time limit. You have but days to find a staircase to the next level down, or it's game over. In this game, it's not about your strength or your dexterity. It's about your followers, your views. Your clout. It's about building an audience and killing those goblins with style.
You can't just survive here. You gotta survive big.
You gotta fight with vigor, with excitement. You gotta make them stand up and cheer. And if you do have that "it" factor, you may just find yourself with a following. That's the only way to truly survive in this game - with the help of the loot boxes dropped upon you by the generous benefactors watching from across the galaxy.
They call it Dungeon Crawler World. But for Carl, it's anything but a game.

The style is simple but efficient, full of pop culture references and the performance is top notch, all by one narrator only.
The story is really gripping but not for the faint hearted or those afraid of a good number of curse words.
So addictive

The characters are interesting layered and complex, every single one of them feels alive.
The world itself is coherent and cohesive, there are no plot holes despite the sheer scale of the intergalactic conspiracies that are slowly unraveled. The crawl itself, the main setting, is just as well-developped, or even more.
The tone is masterfully set, the careful balance between cinycal humor, unsettling horror, sheer comedy, and explosive action is perfectly executed.
Beneath the (awesome) layer of a Fantasy LitRPG with hints of SF, the series juggles complex themes about society and the value of lives, at least that's how it felt to me.
As for the narrator, he's incredible. I've only listened to ONE other audiobook, The Perfect Run (which I also recommend) and the narrator, while good, doesn't hold a candle to Jeff Hays. There are MANY characters involved, and you never once wonder which one is talking. His range is incredible.
I'm writing quite a lot, but I don't think my words can do justice to the series. I highly recommend reading or listening to it, even if you have never heard of LitRPGs. It doesn't need to get you into the genre as a whole, DCC is the best this genre has to offer anyway, flawless execution.
One of the best works of fiction ever written.

I was expecting some dumb fun and it fun but the plot is well done, hint for a promising continuation and I can't wait to jump into the next!
